Welcome to 2021! It seems like there will be a lot of babies this year (well, at least with the folks I know) and I’ve got to churn out some baby gifts, stat! I don’t have time to make EVERYONE a blanket, so next best thing are easy, durable, and beautiful crochet burp cloths.
‘Cause one thing I do know about babies is they sure do spit up. Often. And sometimes with gusto. Sorry, that’s gross but you know it’s true.
ANYWAY. This crochet pattern is easy and the base is beginner friendly, you may need a bit of practice when it comes to the star appliques, but I really think a beginner can tackle them.
I designed this crochet burp cloth pattern to be made in a day and also be absolutely adorable. The cotton yarn gets softer the more it’s washed (you KNOW it’s going to be washed a lot). Because of the attributes of cotton yarn (durable, absorbent, and soft) I cannot recommend any other type of yarn for this crochet pattern.
You can watch my YouTube video for this project for more support. If you make this project, I’d love it if you would tag me on Instagram at @goldenfleececrochetanddesign so I can see!

Make 3 appliques and sew on using darning needle in same color yarn, place the appliques wherever you like (I chose to stagger them in the bottom right corner). Use small sewing stitches, when sewing go through stitches of burp cloth underneath, not in spaces between.
Once sewn on securely, weave in the ends on the underside of the burp cloth, being sure not to let them poke out on the other side, trim the ends.
